The South Cariboo

Our exceptional winter season opens up a whole new world of experiences. The winter offers endless opportunities for fun and excitement in the beauty of the Cariboo. Discover the stunning backcountry by snowmobile, cross-country skis, snowshoes or by dog sled. Recreational opportunities also include ice fishing, downhill skiing, snowboarding, tobogganing, snow tubing, and skating.

100 Mile House

100 Mile House is a quaint town in the South Cariboo, with many shops to explore, and many of the conveniences of the city. For groceries, you will find a Save-On-Foods and a Safeway, as well as a local meat store, John the Butcher, and a bakery, Panino’s. There are many restaurants, including the Hoof and Harness, Yummers, Gold Dust Café, El Caballo (Mexican), TJ’s (Chinese food), and the Cariboo Diner (Fish & chips). For fast food, you will find: KFC, A&W, Dairy Queen, Canadian Pizza, Subway and Tim Hortons. We also have a great coffee shop called the Chartreuse Moose.

Canim Lake Beach Photo   North of 100 Mile

   Canim Lake is just northeast of 100 Mile House, about 25 minutes. It is the    largest lake of the South Cariboo at 37 km, with depths up to 650 feet. Canim    Lake is great for boating, swimming and watersports, with a pebbly shoreline.    For the fishing enthusiast, there are rainbow, lake trout and kokanee, as well as    many fishing lakes nearby. Spring comes earlier at Canim, as it is a few hundred    feet below the level of 100 House. The area is beautiful, surrounded by    mountains, with an abundance of wildlife in the area that includes otters,    beavers, coyotes, black bears, cougars, moose, deer, waterfowl, bald eagles    and songbirds.

Interlakes Area

The Interlakes area is located about ½ hour east of 100 Mile House on Highway 24, and is comprised of 5 main lakes and hundreds of smaller lakes. Sulphurous and Deka Lakes are located 15 minutes north of the Interlakes Store, while Sheridan Lake is just to the south. East of the Interlakes area, you will find Bridge Lake and Lac des Roches.

Highway 24 can be accessed both from the west, 5 minutes south of 100 Mile House on Hwy 97, and from the east at Little Fort, 1 hour north of Kamloops and about 7-8 hours south of Edmonton on Highway 5.

Sulphurous LakeAt the Interlakes Centre on the corner of Highway 24 and Horse Lake Road, we highly recommend the Interlakes Store/ Esso gas station with a deli, bakery, and a basic grocery store. The Interlakes Centre is also the location of the Fish On Pub, a hardware store, Re/Max real estate, a car wash and a butcher shop. 2 minutes east, is the Sheridan Store Site on Highway 24, including a general store, gas station, café, Royal Lepage real estate, and the Country Peddler, which is a great stop for antiques, gifts, fudge or ice cream cones. Bridge Lake Store is furthest east on Highway 24, just south off the highway. For a nice dinner out, there are two nearby restaurants, the Eastwood Restaurant to the east of Sheridan Lake store on Hwy 24, or a fabulous Italian Restaurant at Lac des Roches Resort.

ATV and snowmobile enthusiasts can explore the vast network of interconnecting trails that span the entire region, including nearby Begbie Summit and Windy Mountain. The nature lover will enjoy a variety of wildlife in the area. Explore area hiking and biking trails, or go horseback riding at one of several nearby ranches.

Sulphurous Lake: Enjoy fishing, watersports and swimming in the clear waters of Sulphurous Lake. Sulphurous Lake is about 8 km long and 1.5 km wide and is one of the warmest lakes in the area. It is known for its’ Lake Trout, Rainbow and Kokanee, and is within half an hour from many fly fishing lakes. Sulphurous Lake is located just 30 minutes from 100 Mile House, 15 minutes from the Interlakes Centre and is minutes from Deka Lake.

Deka Lake is 15 km long, with clear waters for boating, waterskiing, swimming, and good fishing. Deka Lake, one of the deeper lakes in the area, is stocked with Rainbow and Kokanee, and is also known for Lake Trout and freshwater Cod. Deka Lake is surrounded by wilderness and forests, with the roads only accessing the south end of the lake. The outdoor enthusiast will enjoy exploring the miles of trails for ATVing, snowmobiling, hiking or biking.

Sheridan Lake Photo   Sheridan Lake: Enjoy fishing and swimming in beautiful clear waters. Sheridan    Lake is spring-fed and is known as one of BC's premier fishing lakes, with many    rainbow trout caught over 3 lbs, and up to 16 lbs. It is also a great lake for    watersports including tubing, water-skiing and wakeboarding. West Sheridan    boasts miles of nature trails for walking, biking, snowmobiling, or ATVing.

   Lac des Roches is one of BC’s most photographed lakes, with it’s beautiful    scenery, many islands and surrounding forests. This lake is 12km long and is    best known for fishing for rainbow trout up to 7lbs. Lac des Roches is also a    great water sports lake. Enjoy nearby area trails for ATVing, hiking and biking    in the summer, and cross-country skiing and snowmobiling in the winter. Bridge Lake: Enjoy waterskiing, wakeboarding, fishing or swimming in the clear waters of Bridge Lake. Bridge Lake is 7 km long, a scenic and enjoyable lake, with many islands to explore and varying depths. Bridge Lake is well known for fishing for Kokanee up to 4 lbs, Rainbow up to 5 lbs, and Lake Trout up to 20lbs. It is also within 10-20 minutes of many phenomenal fishing lakes.

Green Lake / Watch Lake Area

Green LakeGreen Lake, is located in the southern area of the South Cariboo Region, and is known for its warm, crystal clear waters and sandy beaches. Enjoy excellent boating, water-skiing, wakeboarding, and swimming. It is 14km long, 1.5km wide, and boasts shallow and warm waters during the summer season.

Green Lake borders on miles of ATV, snowmobile, hiking and biking trails.  On the south side, visit the Buffalo Ranch where you can take a hay-ride tour, or purchase some amazing buffalo burgers, jerky or steaks for your dinner. Horseback riding is also available at nearby Watch Lake Lodge. Fishing is also nearby at Watch Lake and Green Lake is 20 to 60 minutes from many other well known fishing lakes that the Cariboo has to offer.

Watch Lake is a great fishing lake, adjacent to the north east end of Green Lake, in the South Cariboo region of British Columbia. Watch Lake is well-known among anglers and is stocked annually with Rainbow Trout; there is a speed restriction of 8 km/hr on the lake. You can also enjoy swimming in the waters of Watch Lake, or travel to Green Lake, 5 minutes away, for superb swimming, sandy beaches and water skiing.

There is a restaurant and general store on the north side of Green Lake, at Little Horse Lodge, with great pies and entrees. In 70 Mile House, there is a pub, charming craft store and general store. For 31 flavors of ice cream, you can travel to Carter’s Cones in Lone Butte on Highway 24. In Lone Butte, you will also find a craft shop, general store, restaurants, native art gallery and the Iron Horse Pub.
